I would change your objective. You might want to say: To secure a position in a secondary classroom as a social studies teacher that will allow me to utilize (add a few skills here). I would take out the part where you listed your certification in your education field. It is already listed in a separate field and there isn't a need to have it on there twice. You also might want to go and look at some sample resumes to see ways that they can be formatted.

Which college has the best reputation for economics/business?

Which college has the best reputation for economics/business?
I am currently working on my application for a study abroad in the USA. Since my grades aren't the very best, I need to persuade the jury with my study proposal. This is basically a 2-page informational essay about the course of my life so far and my future goals, especially in education. I have received an education pretty focused on economics thus far and would therefore like to argue, that it would make the most sense for me to go to a college that has a very good reputation in the economics / business department. However, since, like I said, my grades aren't top notch, it can't be the most prestigious school either. The perfect fit would be a college that is generally seen as mediocre, but has a fine economics / business branch. The list of the colleges available is this: (Platz/Plätze = Number of available places) Duke University (Durham, North Carolina, 1 Platz) Indiana University (Bloomington, Indiana, 2 Plätze) Middlebury College (Middlebury, Vermont, 1 Platz) Reed College (Portland, Oregon, 1 Platz) University of Chicago (Chicago, Illinois, 1 Platz) University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, Minnesota, 1 Platz) Western Michigan University (Kalamazoo, Michigan, 1 Platz) Hampshire College (Amherst, Massachusetts, 1 Platz) Montana State University (Bozeman, Montana, 1 Platz) Rutgers University (Camden, New Jersey, 1 Platz) Tulane University (New Orleans, Louisiana, 4 Plätze) University of Arizona (Tucson, Arizona, 1 Platz) University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa, Alabama, 1 Platz) University of California System (13 Plätze) (UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Los Angeles, UC Merced, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz) University of Colorado (Boulder, Colorado, 2 Plätze) University of Kentucky (Lexington, Kentucky, 1 Platz) University of Maryland (College Park, Maryland, 1 Platz) University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, North Carolina, 1 Platz) University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 2 Plätze) University of Washington (Seattle, Washington, 1 Platz) So which of these would you recommend? I have to turn in a list of my top ten preferences. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

Can you give me some ideas to make my biography more interesting?

Can you give me some ideas to make my biography more interesting?
I'm not asking for someone to do my homework but I am asking from a good writer's standpoint to give me some tips to make this biography less boring to read. I tried but I came up short with a less than impressive paper. I'm a sophomore in high school and unfortunately my old english teachers never went over biographies very well. Here goes.... Lois Duncan Behind the Chapters On a warm spring day, April 28, 1934 to be exact, the author who would change suspense writing forever was born. In the town of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Lois Duncan, a tiny girl with an enormous imagination was raised. Little did her parents know at the time, but she would go on to become one of the best mystery novelists of all time. Lois had one brother named Bill and two loving parents, Joseph and Lois Steinmetz. Her astonishing writing talents appeared early in her life. Her mother accounts the first time Lois’ talents became apparent, “Lois was never one to play with other children at school; she would always break away and start writing. We never paid much attention to it until she was in the third grade and brought home a book she was writing. After that, we knew writing was her gift.” Lois started submitting stories to magazines at age ten, and at age thirteen she had her first story, Calling All Girls, published. Lois went on to attend Duke University, but she dropped out because she wanted to focus on a family and marriage. She was married twice and had a total of five children. Eventually, she went back to school to receive her Bachelor’s degree in English to help her with her writing. Over this time period she wrote over six novels in the mystery genre for children and young adults. She enjoyed using her gift to spark an interest in reading in the young minds of children. Three of her novels received a Parent’s Choice Award. She also won the American Library Association Best Book award. Lois Duncan’s career as a mystery writer for children gave her the opportunity to perform her talent everyday—writing. However, success does not always come without obstacles. On July 16, 1989, her youngest daughter, Kaitlyn Arquette, was murdered. The case was never closed in the court records or in Lois’ heart. After her daughter’s death, Lois Duncan wrote her first psychological suspense novel entitled, Who Killed My Daughter?” The novel is considered nonfiction, because all of the facts and events are real occurrences that took place in the case of her daughter’s murder. From that point on, Lois Duncan continued writing thrillers with plots more suitable for a teenager than a child. She wrote over forty books focusing on the supernatural and was nominated for numerous awards in the mystery and suspense category. Even with the enormous tribulation Lois suffered through, it brought out the best of her abilities. She was able to use her daughter’s story to motivate her to pick up the pen day after day. Lois Duncan has had an impeccable career full of successes and hardships. Lois Duncan is well past the age to retire but cannot seem to give up her passion for writing. She has novels still being published and plans to continue writing for as long as she can. Lois Duncan has set an incredibly high standard for future mystery authors. Her talents and impact on the mystery genre as a whole will be remembered for generations to come. well my teacher gave me a c+ on this so something can be improved.

Actually Hun, I have to tell you..what you have isn't bad at all. The one thing I usually look for when reading a bio is that there's no consistancy from beginning to end or when the writer seems to add facts out of date, meaning jumping back and then forward again. You offer both insight and factual information. I didn't find it boring at all, but indeed interesting. I really cannot see many changes needed. Good luck, hope you get an A+, cause you deserve one! EDIT, bummer..and sorry the teacher gave you a C..I thought it was well worded..next time for sure, huh? a hug for a great attempt.

Read this please!! Does it sound okay? Easy ten points, just give your opinion.?
So I have to write a speech for Social Studies class. We have to be an important person in history. I'm Louisa May Alcott. While, you're reading this, here's the questions I'd like you to answer; (a) is the intro and closing creative? (b) is there enough information? (c) is it okay that I talk in first person? or would it sound better if i talked in third person (the teacher says its our choice) (d) overall, is it a good report? Louisa May Alcott Introduction What famous woman in history wrote the classic, Little Women, was a women's rights advocate, AND participated in the American Civil War? The answer is Louisa May Alcott. This is the story of her life and accomplishments. INFORMATION, PART A: EARLY YEARS Louisa May Alcott was born on November 29, 1832 . IShe was the daughter of a well-known transcendentalist, Amos Bronson Alcott, and his wife, Abigail May Alcott. Louisa had one older sister, Anna Bronson. The Alcott family lived in Germantown (which is now a part of Philadelphia), Pennsylvania. Later, Louisa had two younger sisters, Elizabeth Sewall Alcott and Abigail May Alcott. Little did she know that her relationship with her sisters would make her famous. In 1834, their family moved to Boston, Massachusetts, so Louisa's father would create an experimental school and join the Transcendtal Club with noted educator; Ralph Waldo Emerson and the naturalist, Henry David Thoreau. The Alcotts had many temporary homes due to setbacks with my father's school before finally buying a house in Concord, Massachusetts. Louisa and her sisters were homeschooled, by Thoreau and Mr. Alcott. However, the girls recieved some schooling from educators and writers such as Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Margaret Fuller. All of them were family friends. Louisa titled her early years, 'Transcendentalist Wild Oats' in a newspaper sketch many years later. WHY SHE WAS FAMOUS Alcott was an extremely hard-working feminist. She wrote romance novels, under the pen 'A.M. Bernard,' such as A Long Fatal Love Chase, and Paulina's Passion and Punishments. Although these stories were very successful, it was not what made Louisa May Alcott a household name. Louisa hit ,literary success in 1868, when she wrote the famous novel, Little Women. Little Women is loosely based upon Louisa and her sisters growing up in Concord. The sequels, Part Second (1869), Little Men (1871), and Jo's Boys (1886) completed the successful 'March Family Saga'. She had many later volumes that followed Little Women. Louisa then went on to become an advocate of women's suffrage and was the first woman to vote in Concord, in a school board election. She joined a group of female writers that wrote articles about women's issues. Newspaper columnists applauded their work. LATER YEARS Louisa May Alcott wrote until her death. Her death was due to mercury poisoning during her service to the American Civil War. She died in Boston on March 6th, 1888, two days after her father had passed. She was 55 years old. Louisa May Alcott's grave still remains in Sleepy Hollow Cemetary in Concord. HOW SHE CHANGED THE WORLD Louisa May Alcott surely left a mark in Historical American Literature. The story of the March sisters still remains a classic today, and inspired many authors around the world, who wrote biographies about Alcott's amazing life. She also inspired many people for standing up for women's rights or participating in the American Civil War. CLOSING Louisa May Alcott will always be remember for her intelligence, bold personality, and creativity. Many generations will continue to read her work, and be inspired by it. Is this okay?? Please help! Remember, the intro and closing need to be REALLY creative...so any better ideas for those would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

looks good to me. i would not change anything. very creative, good sentence structure. i'm only curious as to what you mean by "REALLY creative". your instructor used those words?

2
I think you've missed the point of the exercise. This isn't first person writing at all. This isn't you being a character, this is a standard essay about someone. If you have to "be" the character, then you can't say "Louisa May Alcott", you have to say "I".

Great report! First person sounds good, maybe dress in costume for a very realistic effect.

Why'd I get an F on this paper?

Why'd I get an F on this paper?
In my life, I have had many idols-From Elliot Smith to Ben Folds, they have never been scarce in number. However, I am taking this time to dedicate my paragraph to the one person who has shaped my life greatly - Will Smith. Willard Christopher Smith, Jr. was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Because of his behavior he had gained himself the nickname "Fresh Prince" in high school, where he ended his schooling career. After skipping college, Mr. Smith recorded many rap albums, where he started off his rap career, earning the first Grammy ever given in the rap category. However, it was not to be. Heading towards bankrupts in 1990, Will struck a deal; a contract with NBC, agreeing to be the main character of a new-wave TV sitcom: "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air". The show revolved around the various misadventures and misdeeds of a lovably miscreant by the name of Will, featuring an opening tune written and performed aptly by Will Smith, himself. The show was best known for its myriad of recurring gangs and ability to go beyond breaking the fourth wall, but absolutely shattering it. The show was, needless to say a hit and boosted Smith's career into stardom. After the show ended in 1996, Smith began a successful solo career in music, whilst starring in quite a few films such as Independence Day, and Men In Black. The two particular films established Smith's commercial reputation as a bankable star whose appeal exceeded concepts such as age, race, and gender and into a whole new area in the box office. After a while his solo career spiraled into the abyss of failure. It was then that his mom got scared and said "You're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air." I whistled for a cab and when it came near the license plate said fresh and had dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare but I thought "naw forget it, yo homes in Bel-Air"! I pulled put to a house about seven or eight and I yelled to the cabby "yo, homes smell you later"! I looked at my kingdom, I was finally there to sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-Air. ▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲▲ Yes, age and date were included. I think the teacher is racist (I'm white). Not one has yet to point out out that it ends with the Fresh Prince theme song. What... what the fuck?

Maybe you didn't meet expectations?

2
You were supposed to talk about how he shaped your life? What you did was an expose about HIS accomplishments. How were they related to you? How did his career shape what you did in your own life???? In short, I think that you got an F because you didn't really answer the question. You do use words well, but think about how your ideas are organized. Whenever I had to write papers, I first thought about the questions and then tried to answer it in one or two sentences. Then I filled in the rest with examples and concluded with my final statement about how it is relevant to the question at hand. As you write, keep asking yourself "what does this have to do with what I am being asked" and then answer the question as if the person who will read it doesn't know what you were asked! Hang in there!!!!

3
From your first sentence it seems the paper is to be about idols and role models in your life. While your paper is a great biography piece on Will Smith and his role in a 90's show, nowhere do you explain how his success has influenced your life. Why is he an idol? What changes have occurred in your outlook on life or attitude that can be connected to his personal life? I really do not think race has anything to do with your bad grade. It seems that you did not complete the assignment.

4
Were you ask who was an idol in your life or who influence you? If so you did not complete the assignment. All you did was give a bio I could of read off a Will Smith web page. Any college student should be able to write a better paper than this

Universities don't have an American History program per se, especially for teachers. If you're looking to be a teacher you want to look for schools that have a good Education program. When you are in college to become a teacher you get a degree in Education with a minor in whatever you're going to teach. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I live in PA but i would love to go to college in Tennesse or Texas?
i am a high school senior, currently applying to various colleges. right now on my list of colleges are mostly schools near where i live (about 45 minutes outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania). i am planning to live on campus, though, not commute. the reason i'm trying to stay close to home is because i get sick a lot, and i have some severe allergies. i'm torn right now because i don't want to live in PA forever... but i'm worried that if i move far away, i won't be able to go home if i get really sick or something. anyway, i would love to live in a nice place like Tennessee or Texas. maybe north/south carolina. another problem is that i would probably get homesick. so... what are your suggestions? should i stay in PA? or should i try someplace new and far away? also... do you have any suggestions for colleges i should apply to? i have a 3.1 GPA. sat scores are: math-610, reading- 630, writing- 670. (together that is a 1910). and i prefer Christian colleges. Thanks! i am planning on applying to: Eastern University (in PA) Messiah College (PA) West Chester University (PA) Penn State (PA) Baylor University (texas) ok, i just found out that i've been telling everyone the wrong SAT scores! haha i have no idea how this happened, but they're actually: math:600 reading:660 Writing:670. wooo!!

You might be able to get in with those scores, if you also have a high class rank and a solid list of extra curricular. I'm torn between Vandy and Haverford, which is near Philly Did you visit the college in Texas? It's important to make sure you could handle the entirely different lifestyle. I wish I knew where to apply early decision to

Lipscomb University is a Christian College in Nashville TN that I went to for a year and is a good school, to expensive for me to have kept going though. edit: Vanderbilt is just a few minutes from Lipscomb and a lot of people transfer there after two years at Lipscomb.
